SVG gives much importance to CSS use, but it generates too
big files to compete with bitmap use.
Several elements and functions are questionable in a vectorial concept;
while a simple gradient-fill-type as below is vectorially impossible with SVG.
VML is very expressive , and distinguishes itself by 
an obvious superiority in several functions and elements,
by drawing performances, and particularly by the small size of the files and the direct HTML inclusion.
